change?

when u thought things were getting better..

personally by experience when i taught form 4 science to an arts streamed class drg my temporary teaching stint, the students reli didnt hav the command of english that would enable them to study sci n maths effectively in english.

i had to translate every sentence in the text book to malay, then explain the concept in mixed malay n english.

next lesson, when i review the previous class, in english *blank stares*, in malay, *some response*.

n this was in a national sch in the city centre whr medium was english n malay.

however, isit reli necessary to revert back to teaching sci n maths in malay?

the point here should be on catering to every student's level.

- good students want to study those subjects in english.
- average students are okay with english or malay but eventually they can adapt to english.
- students w poor command of english need bilangual books, exam pprs and more english classes from Day 1 of kindergarten / primary sch.

vin, i agree.
really, is it neccessary?
jeez.
at tertiary level, mostly everything will be in english!!
i don think adding extra english class hours will really help much. APPLICATION is needed. english cant be studied, really.it has to be applied.

I was also shock to know the news, after all the effort the teachers had put in - some of them work their way out to improve their own English in order to teach the student leh! Talk about teaching spirit, what can be a bigger blow to it than terminating this project?

very disappointed...

Better solution is to learn in mother tongue, be it english, mandarin, malay. It's impossible to use math&sci to learn a language. If not I can teach u mandarin using math. =p

The best part is the poll on Dr. M's blog. It's just biased, look at its targeted readers and language used. It just cant represent whole nation.

sz - u hav a point. we cant cater to every part of society who hav diff needs. but we can work towards a more globalised society. grassroots grassroots. i'm just glad my f6 was in english. PHEW.
